  • Col. John “Fred” Tunberg, 94, of Hot Springs Village passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 09, 2015. Fred was born April 11, 1921 to Clarence and Zoe (Briggs) Tunberg in Wessington Springs, South Dakota.

    Fred proudly served in the US Army for 30 years obtaining the rank of Colonel; he served in WWII Pacific and European Theater, Occupation Tour in Germany, and Vietnam.

    Fred is survived by his 2 children: William (Patsy) Tunberg, and Jeanne (Dick) Nelson, 5 grandchildren: Natalie (Ramon) Ledesma, Thomas (Lauren) Tunberg, Aimee (Rick) Garofalo, Carrie (Gary) Nelson Kase, and Reid (Suzie) Nelson, and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Estelle and his brother Lee.

    There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 15th at the Good Samaritan Chapel in Hot Springs Village.

    Memorials may be sent in Fred’s honor to Good Samaritan at 121 Cortez Road, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.
